Cenchrus purpurascens Thunberg. Common name: Chinese Fountaingrass, Foxtail Fountaingrass. Phenology: Sep-Nov. Habitat: Disturbed areas, roadsides, floodplains, old fields. Distribution: Native of e. Asia. This species seems to be developing into an invasive species, with increasing reports of its spread into natural areas, as opposed to merely occurring as a waif following cultivation. Reported for DE and MD, where frequently encountered on roadsides (Longbottom, Naczi, & Knapp 2016).
