*Setaria italica (Linnaeus) Palisot de Beauvois. Foxtail-millet, Italian Millet, Hungarian Millet. Phen: Jul-Aug. Hab: Fields, roadsides, frequently planted as a cover crop after soil disturbance. Dist: Native of Eurasia.

Origin/Endemic status: E. and se. Asia

Taxonomy Comments: Probably derived via cultivation and selection from S. viridis, and cultivated as a food crop in China since at least 6000 BP and later in Europe (Hancock 2004).
