Spartina alterniflora Loiseleur-Deslongchamps. Saltmarsh Cordgrass, Smooth Cordgrass. Phen: Aug-Dec. Hab: Salt marshes. S. alterniflora is the dominant plant (often essentially a monoculture) of intratidal salt marshes in our area. Dist: NL (Newfoundland) south to FL, west to TX and ne. Mexico; e. South America; introduced in n. Europe.
