Dichanthelium malacon (Nash) LeBlond. Dehiscent Witch Grass. Phen: April-Dec. Hab: Dry pine/scrub oak woodlands. Dist: Disjunctly from NJ south to FL and AL; reported from TX

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Other Comments: The basally attenuate spikelets, first glumes ½ or more as long as the spikelets, and dehiscent glumes and sterile lemmas distinguish this wide-ranging but local and uncommon species. RAB recognized the name P. malacon, but misapplied it to specimens referable to D. oligosanthes (Schultes) Gould and D. fusiforme (A.S. Hitchcock) Harvill.
