Pinus resinosa W. Aiton. Common name: Red Pine. Habitat: High elevation forests, in pine plantations, and persisting after silvicultural plantings. Further north often growing on dry, rocky (south-facing) ridges and bluffs. Distribution: NL (Newfoundland) QC, ON, and MN south to WV (Pendleton and Hardy counties), PA (Luzerne, Wyoming, Tioga, and Centre counties), and IL. Planted and established elsewhere. In WV, it is much more common as a plantation tree than as a native.
