Ranunculus caricetorum Greene. Subgenus: Ranunculus. Section: Polyanthemos. Northern Swamp Buttercup, Marsh Buttercup. Phen: Apr-Aug. Hab: Swampy forests and marshes. Dist: NB west to s. MB, south to NJ, n. VA, s. OH, and s. MO; reports of this species farther south are probably in error.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: This species is octoploid (n = 32); the remainder of the R. hispidus complex is tetraploid.
