Intro: Erect to sprawling perennial of dry fields, roadsides and other disturbed areas. Native of Europe.

Stems: Stems branched, covered with white woolly hairs.

Leaves: Leaves alternate; upper leaves short petiolate and lower leaves long petiolate; palmately divided into 5-7 leaflets, these narrowly wedge-shaped, 1/2-2 in. long, with pointy lobes/teeth above the middle, hairy and green above and silvery woolly beneath.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in branching clusters of 1-several; yellow; 1/4-1/2 in. wide; consisting of 5 triangular petals, 5 pointed hairy sepals of nearly equal length and visible between the petals, and 20 yellow stamens surrounding the conical yellow center.

Fruits: Fruit an aggregate of tiny achenes.
