Prunus susquehanae Willdenow. Subgenus: Microcerasus. Appalachian Dwarf-cherry, Appalachian Sand Cherry, Susquehanna Cherry. Phen: Apr-May; Jul-Aug. Hab: Prairies, open rocky or sandy sites. Dist: Sw. ME and sw. QC west to MB, south to nc. and sw. NC, sc. TN (the Barrens region of the Eastern Highland Rim), and IL.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Catling, McKay-Kuja, & Mitrow (1999) support species status distinct from P. pumila, based on the greater distinctions of this entity from the other three in the complex.
