Spiraea virginiana Britton. Common name: Virginia Spiraea, Appalachian Spiraea, Virginia Meadowsweet. Phenology: Jun-Jul; Aug-Sep. Habitat: Riverbanks, riverside shrub thickets, where occasionally flood-scoured. Distribution: A Southern Appalachian endemic: sw. PA, s. OH, WV, and sw. VA south through w. NC and e. TN to nw. GA.

Taxonomy Comments: Ogle (1991a, 1991b) presented an excellent discussion of the taxonomy, history, and biology of this interesting species.
