FAGACEAE

Quercus prinoides Willdenow. Dwarf Chinquapin Oak. Phen: Apr; Aug-Sep (of the same year). Hab: Xeric upland glades, barrens, and woodlands, on clay soils derived from mafic or calcareous rocks or in sandy acidic soils, probably in sites which naturally burned rather frequently. Dist: MA and s. MI south to NC, Panhandle FL (L. Anderson, pers.comm., 2021), OK, and TX.
