*Alnus glutinosa (Linnaeus) Gaertner. Black Alder, European Alder. Phen: Mar-May. Hab: Disturbed areas, suburban woodlands. Dist: Native of Europe. Sometimes cultivated, especially northward, and naturalized at least as far south as s. PA (Rhoads & Klein 1993; Rhoads & Block 2007); it has also been reported for Morgan County, TN (Chester, Wofford, & Kral 1997). Reported as well-established in Washington County VA (Virginia Botanical Associates 2018).
