*Betula pubescens Ehrhart var. pubescens . European White Birch, Downy Birch. Phen: Apr-Jun. Hab: Disturbed areas. Dist: Native of Europe. Also reported as an introduction in e. GA (Jones & Coile 1988) and at scattered sites throughout PA (Rhoads & Block 2007).

Origin/Endemic status: Europe

Taxonomy Comments: A tetraploid species (2n=4x=56).

Synonymy: = K3, Ashburner & McAllister (2016); = Betula alba L. – C, F, G, an ambiguous name; = Betula pubescens Ehrh. ssp. pubescens – FNA3, K1, NE; < Betula pubescens Ehrh. – K4, Pa
