Populus heterophylla Linnaeus. Common name: Swamp Cottonwood. Phenology: Mar-Apr. Habitat: Blackwater and brownwater swamp forests, tidal swamp forests, depression ponds, interdune ponds. Distribution: CT west to MI, south to Panhandle FL and LA, scattered and irregular in distribution, absent from the Appalachians.
