*Populus nigra Linnaeus. Black Poplar, Lombardy Poplar. Phen: Mar-May; May-Jun. Hab: Disturbed suburban areas. Dist: Native of s. Europe. Cultivated in various forms, especially the columnar ‘Lombardy Poplar’; short-lived and weakly spreading to disturbed areas in the vicinity of plantings, especially by root sprouts (Diamond 2013).
