*Acer platanoides Linnaeus ssp. platanoides . Section: Platanoidea. Common name: Norway Maple. Phenology: Mar-Apr. Habitat: Suburban woodlands, disturbed forests, hedgerows. Distribution: Native of Europe. In much of the ne. United States, A. platanoides has become a noxious weed tree.

Origin/Endemic status: Europe

Taxonomy Comments: Only ssp. platanoides is introduced in North America; ssp. turkestanicum (Pax) P.C. de Jong occurs in Central Asia to n. Pakistan.

Other Comments: A commonly planted cultivar has purple foliage.
