*Acer ginnala Maximowicz. Section: Ginnala. Common name: Amur Maple. Phenology: Apr-Jun. Habitat: Cultivated, rarely and sparingly escaped to roadsides, disturbed areas, and suburban woodlands. Distribution: Native of e. Asia. Reported as "cultivated and occasionally escaped" in s. PA (Rhoads & Klein 1993; Rhoads & Block 2007). Wright et al. (2023) report local naturalization from two separate sites in VA.
ID notes: Acer tataraicum differs from Acer ginnala in having leaves unlobed or with only obscure side lobes.

Taxonomy Comments: Infraspecific taxa are often recognized within Acer ginnala in its native area. Closely similar is the related Acer tataricum; it and A. ginnala are sometimes treated as only varietally or subspecifically distinct. Acer tataricum is used sparingly in horticulture and may naturalize.
