Intro: Upright, naturalized annual/biennial found in disturbed areas. Native of Europe, now found throughout most of N. America.

Stems: Stems 1-several arising from a basal rosette, sometimes branching at the base, grayish-green, covered with fine hairs.

Leaves: Basal leaves narrowly oblong-oval, shallowly toothed to entire; stem leaves alternate, numerous, clasping with small "earlobes" at the base, lance-elliptic, to 3 in. long (but reduced in size upward); all leaves fuzzy like the stems.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers on spreading stalks of dense terminal racemes, white, less than 1/8 in. wide, consisting of 4 minute petals.

Fruits: Fruit a dry, flattened, oval pod that is notched at the tip.
