Trillium grandiflorum (Michaux) Salisbury. Subgenus: Callipetalon. Common name: Large-flowered Trillium, White Trillium, Great White Trillium. Phenology: Apr-May; Jul-Aug. Habitat: Rich coves and mesic slopes, also less typically on ridges over "rich" rock types. Distribution: S. QC, s. ON, MI, and MN, south to NJ, c. NC, nw. SC, n. GA, n. AL, s. IL, and IA.
ID notes: Petals white to pink.

Stems: Stems stout, unbranched, pale green to pale reddish-green, smooth.
Leaves: Leaves 3 in a whorl at top of stem, sessile to short-petiolate, broadly oval, 2 1/2-6 1/2 in. long, smooth.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flower solitary on an ascending stalk to 4 in. long, emerging from center of leaf whorl; waxy-white and turning pink with age; about 3 in. wide; widely funnel-shaped; consisting of 3 spreading elliptic petals that overlap at the base, 3 green narrow sepals, 6 straight yellow anthers and a white ovary.
Fruits: Fruit a pale green, oval berry-like capsule.
