Physalis lanceolata Michaux. Sandhill Ground-cherry. Phen: Apr-Sep; Jul-Sep. Hab: Longleaf pine sandhills. Dist: Endemic to sandhill habitats of (primarily) sc. and (rarely) se. NC (northern limit in Lee, Wayne, and New Hanover counties), south through SC to just over the Savannah River in Richmond County, GA

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: Many earlier floras included midwestern material in the concept of this species; it is, however, limited to the Carolinas and Georgia. See Hinton (1970) for discussion of its taxonomic status.
