NC (northern limit in Lee, Wayne, and New Hanover counties), south through SC to just over the Savannah River in Richmond County, GA

Taxonomy Comments: Many earlier floras included midwestern material in the concept of this species; it is, however, limited to the Carolinas and Georgia. See Hinton (1970) for discussion of its taxonomic status.
