Horticultural Information
Intro: Erect annual found on wooded slopes, savannas, granitic outcrops, roadsides and other dry habitats.
Stems: Stems slender, weakly angled, often profusely branched, dull green to red-purple and smooth or slightly hairy.
Leaves: Leaves opposite, linear to needle-like, 3/4-2 in. long, sometimes darkened to reddish-purple, with a prominent mid-vein.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in a branching, terminal raceme; rose-pink, about ½ in. long, tubular bell-shaped with 5 lobes, the bottom 3 spreading and the upper 2 flopping down to partly cover the corolla tube opening; white with pink spots and 2 yellow lines within the tube.
Fruits: Fruit a many-seeded, round capsule.
