Buchnera floridana Gandoger. Savanna Bluehearts, Florida Bluehearts. Phen: Apr-Oct; May-Nov. Hab: Pine savannas, pine flatwoods, seepage bogs, calcareous prairies (Black Best of MS and AL), sandy roadsides. Dist: Se. NC south to s. FL, west to TX; West Indies; scattered localities in s. Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Previous attributions of B. longifolia Kunth (including B. elongata Small) to southeastern states (notably FL, AL, GA, and MS) are based on misidentifications of material which is actually B. floridana. Taxonomic complexities remain in the FL Peninsula, and need additional study.
