Verbena stricta Ventenat. Common name: Hoary Vervain. Phenology: Jun-Sep. Habitat: Prairies, glades, barrens, pastures, and roadsides. Distribution: W. NY ON, MI, MN, ND, and MT south to KY, TN, MS, AR, TX, and NM; the eastern extent of nativity is uncertain. Reported for AL (Madison County) by Keener et al. (2024), where considered "likely … not native".

Taxonomy Comments: This species hybridizes with V. simplex when they co-occur, forming the hybrid V. ×moechina Moldenke.
