Stems: Stems ridged, branched only at base.
Leaves: Leaves alternate, sessile but generally not clasping, elliptic to oval or oblong, to about 1 in. long, sometimes wavy-margined.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in leaf axils, opening 1 at a time and most never opening; purple to pale lavender; about ½ in. wide; consisting of 5 widely spreading petals, 5 white stamens and a 3-lobed stigma.
Fruits: Fruit an ellipsoid capsule.
