Stems: Stems with ascending slender branches in upper 1/3, smooth.
Leaves: Leaves basal, petiolate, oblong-lance-shaped, 2-6 in. long; a few smaller alternate, linear stem leaves also present; all gland-dotted.

Flowers: Composite flowers (heads) at tips of branches, forming a large, flat-topped cluster; heads less than 1/4 in. wide, consisting of 3-5 deep yellow, tubular disk florets.
