NC south to s. peninsular FL, west to Panhandle FL and se AL.

ID notes:Easily distinguished by the clustered flowers, lacking petals but with showy sepals (usually white, cream, pale green, pink, or mixtures of those colors).

Taxonomy Comments: This species is tetraploid (n = 16).

Other Comments: Peng (1989) reports that "with its whitish creamy sepals, which are very showy in the dense flower aggregates, the cross-pollinating L. suffruticosa successfully attracts many insects, mostly bumblebees, honeybees, and wasps".
