Stems: Stems mostly unbranched, angled and grooved, smooth or sparsely hairy.
Leaves: Leaves alternate (no basal rosette), short-petiolate to sessile, broadly lance-shaped with a long-tapering point, to 6 in. long, toothed and sparsely hairy.

Flowers: Composite flowers (heads) in small axillary clusters; heads about 1/4 in. wide, with 2-4 yellow ray florets encircling a small center disk of 3-9 yellow, tubular florets. 3-4 series of very narrow, green bracts surround the narrowly bell-shaped base of each head.
