Solidago hispida Muhlenberg ex Willdenow var. hispida . Hairy Goldenrod. Phen: Jul-Oct. Hab: Dry rocky forests and woodland edges. Dist: NL (Labrador) west to SK, south to nw. GA, AL, AR, IA, and SD. Widespread in e. and c. TN (Chester, Wofford, & Kral 1997) and in nw. GA (Jones & Coile 1988). Also reported for NC and SC by Kartesz (1999, 2010). Our variety is the typic; other varieties are more northern, around the Great Lakes and in maritime Canada.
