A genus of 2 species, 1 in e. North America and 1 in Japan (Sheviak & Catling in FNA 2002a).
ID notes:Like Tipularia, Aplectrum has a single, overwintering leaf, purplish on the underside, and withering prior to the appearance of the flowering stalk; they are readily separable by leaf shape, texture, and veining (see Tipularia).
