Calliandra Bentham. Subfamily: Caesalpinoideae. clade: Mimosoid clade.
A genus of about 142 species, trees and shrubs, of the New World tropics and subtropics. We follow Souza et al. (2013) regarding the circumscription of the genus and its sections.
ID notes:The dehiscence of the fruits is distinctive in our region: both sutures of the legume separate simultaneously from the tip of the pod downwards, with each valve recurving outwards.
