Leitneria Chapman. Corkwood.
As reinterpreted by Schrader & Graves (2011), a genus of 2 species, one with 2 subspecies, endemic to disjunct areas of se. North America. Yatskievych (2013) expressed skepticism that the three disjunct populations are reliably distinct based on the morphological characters presented by Schrader & Graves (2011); the combination of morphological characters, genetic differentiation, and disjunct isolation warrants taxonomic recognition of the three populations. Historically, the genus has sometimes been placed in its own family, Leitneriaceae.
