Nelumbo Adanson. Lotus-lily, Lotus, Sacred-lotus, Sacred-bean.

Key to Nelumbo

A genus of 2 species, aquatic herbs, of temperate and subtropical e. North America and e. Asia.

ID notes: Nelumbo can be immediately distinguished in vegetative condition from the other ‘pads’ (Nymphaea, Nuphar, and Nymphoides) by its peltate leaves, and from the peltate Brasenia by the much larger size and round (rather than elliptic) leaves.
