Orthochilus Hochstetter ex A. Richard. Wild Coco.

A genus of 30 (or more) species, of s. North America, Cuba, Colombia, and (mainly) tropical Africa (Martos et al. 2014).

ID notes:The long (to 7 dm), plicate leaves are distinctive among our orchids. Small individuals can be mistaken for Calopogon when not in bloom. Orthochilus ecristatus differs, however, in having the stem covered from node to node by a succession of sheaths (vs. the sheaths much shorter) and in having the leaves 2-3 on a separate shoot emerging from the corm before the bloom-stalk (vs. leaf 1, on the bloom-stalk).
