*Zinnia elegans Jacquin. Common name: Garden Zinnia, Elegant Zinnia. Phenology: May-Nov. Habitat: Disturbed areas, commonly cultivated. Distribution: Native of the New World tropics.

Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Taxonomy Comments: Zinnia elegans Jacquin 1792 has been nomenclaturally "conserved" against Zinnia violacea Cavanilles 1791.
