Dichanthelium recognitum (Fernald) LeBlond. Novel Witchgrass. Phen: Probably spring into autumn (known collections are Jun-Sep). Hab: Mostly wet soils near creeks, swamps, ponds, and bogs; also reported from dry woods. Dist: CT and RI south to NJ and PA, then disjunctly to se. VA and montane province of NC and TN.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Superficially resembling Dichanthelium scabriusculum, from which it is most readily separated by its elliptic spikelets and ciliate ligule. Not treated by C, G, RAB, and Va, and regarded as a sterile hybrid by FNA.
