Dalibarda Linnaeus. Subfamily: Rosoideae. Tribe: Rubeae. Robin-Run-Away.

A genus of 2 (-3) species, perennial herbs, of ne. North America and nw. North America (and possibly e. Asia). Dalibarda has sometimes been included as an aberrant member in Rubus, but differs in many morphological ways. The most recent and extensive molecular phylogenetic analyses by Carter et al. (2019) and Huang et al. (2023) also suggest retaining it in Rubus, but mention its "dry fruits, reduced carpel number, and apetalous, carpellate and cleistogamous flowers" as aberrant in Rubus, and that it "nests either within Group 1 or is sister to other Rubus species studied" (Carter et al. 2019). It is also uninvolved in the complex reticulate evolution of core Rubus, and we prefer to retain it at generic rank.
