Crataegus austromontana Beadle. Valley Head Hawthorn, Southern Mountain Hawthorn. Phen: Apr; Sep-Oct. Hab: Mountain woodlands, over sandstone or calcareous rock. Dist: N. AL, c. and se. TN? Recently verified form Paint Rock, AL (R. Lance, pers.comm., 2023).

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: A rare taxa described from the Sand Mountain area, closely related to C. triflora Chapman but having 10 stamens per flower, large, roundish leaves and a straggling growth habit. Possibly a local variant form of C. triflora, or an intermediate.
