Crataegus ×dispessa Ashe. Monteer Hawthorn. Phen: May; Sept-Oct. Hab: Streamsides, brushy woodlands. Dist: MO, AR.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: Assumed of hybrid origin between a form of C. collina Chapman and a member of series Molles. Described in 1903, it is the earliest of a complex of similar hybrids subsequently named by Charles Sargent from the region of MO and AR, all apparently from a similar parental combination but each entity differing slightly, owing to different parental genotypes. Possibly all these putative hybrid taxa by Sargent (C. ×fastosa, C. ×kelloggii, C. ×latebrosa, C. ×noelensis, C. ×treleasei) could be designated as nothovarieties under C. ×dispessa.
