Crataegus quaesita Beadle var. egens (Beadle) R.W. Lance. Common name: Sand Barren Hawthorn. Phenology: Late Mar-Apr; Aug-Sep. Habitat: Sandy scrublands, pine woodlands. Distribution: S. SC to s. AL and peninsular FL.

ID notes: The small (mostly 1-2 cm), broadly obovate leaves are distinctive in the typical varietal form, but occasional intermediates with quaesita var. floridana is suggested among some mixed populations, such as in the taxon Crataegus cirrata Beadle.
