Crataegus ×vailiae Britton. Vail’s Hawthorn. Phen: Apr-May; Sep-Oct. Hab: Pastures, woodlands, streambanks. Dist: VA and NC w. to MO, AR.

ID notes: The serrated, unlobed, pubescent leaves with few or no petiolar glands, deeply serrate sepals and partly pitted pyrenes are usually diagnostic.
