Ligusticum scothicum Linnaeus. Scottish Lovage. Phen: Jul-Sep. Hab: Beaches. Dist: Long Island, NY, northwards to NL, NU, and Greenland; nw. Europe.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: L. hultenii Fernald of nw. North America and ne. Asia is here recognized at species rank, making the ne. North American and w. European entity L. scothicum. Linnaeus (1753) spelled the epithet 'Scothieum', with the 'e' a correctable typographic error for 'c'; he later (1759) corrected the spelling to 'scoticum' by removing the extraneous 'h' -- but this emendation is not here accepted based on the Code.
