Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Taxonomy Comments: Wunderlin (2023) treats Bauhinia aculeata as having two subspecies, with ssp. aculeata widespread in the Caribbean and ssp. grandiflora (A.L. de Jussieu) Wunderlin native to Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. They seem distinct at species rank.

Synonymy: = Bauhinia aculeata L. ssp. aculeata – FNA11.1; < Bauhinia aculeata L. – Fl3, K3, K4, WH3
