Lepanthopsis melanantha (Reichenbach f.) Ames. Crimson Lepanthopsis, Tiny Orchid. Phen: Jan-Dec. Hab: Epiphytic on trees in cypress swamps. Dist: S. FL (Collier County); West Indies (Greater Antilles: Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico).

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Other Comments: Last seen in FL in 1975, this diminutive orchid has eluded even the most dedicated orchid enthusiasts for years, but could still perhaps be hidden away deep in some inaccessible slough of Collier County.
