Hab: Xeric ridgetops, glades, dry prairies and cross-timber woodlands westward. Dist: S. MO (?) and s. KS south to c. AR, e. TX, and sc. TX, especially on the Edwards Plateau (Hunt 1990).

Taxonomy Comments: Var. ashei Sudworth [= Q. neoashei Bush] is worthy of recognition at the varietal level at least (Hunt 1990).
