Crataegus mollis (Torrey & A. Gray) Scheele var. lanuginosa (Sargent) Lance. Webb City Hawthorn. Phen: Late Apr; late Oct. Hab: Dry, gravelly hills. Dist: Endemic (so far as is known) to Jasper County, MO. This entity has not been seen in many decades in its type locality and is presumed extirpated; it does survive in cultivation.

ID notes:The broadly ovate, lobed leaves are shorter (3-5 cm) than in the typical var. mollis.
