Crataegus mollis (Torrey & A. Gray) Scheele var. dumetosa (Sargent) Kruschke. Missouri Downy Hawthorn. Phen: Mar-Apr; Sep-Oct. Hab: Mesic woodlands, calcareous uplands, pastures. Dist: Known from IN, IL, MO and AR, reported from e. TX, ne. GA (specimens from Pocket Branch, Pigeon Mountain, GA attributable to this variety).

ID notes:The ovate or oval, unlobed or barely lobed leaves with cuneate or rounded bases tend to distinguish this variety.
