Crataegus ×spes-aestatum J.B. Phipps. Hope-of-Summers. Phen: Apr; Sep-Oct. Hab: Open woodlands, thickets, streambanks. Dist: S. IL to s. MO, historically near Mississippi River.

ID notes: The spring growth is densely pubescent or canescent and leaves are rhombic-elliptic and sharply serrate.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: This ambiguous taxon is poorly known and represented by few collections. It is suspected of being of interserial hybrid origin involving Crataegus collina.

Synonymy : = Lance (2014); = Crataegus spes-aestatum – FNA9; = n/a – Il; < Crataegus viridis L. var. viridis – K3
