Carex misera Buckley. Section: [26ff] Section 23b Hymenochlaenae. Wretched Sedge. Phen: Jun. Hab: Moderate to high elevation cliffs and rock outcrops. Dist: A Southern Blue Ridge endemic: nw. NC and w. TN south to ne. GA (Rabun County) and nw. SC. Discovered for SC in 2022 (S. Tessel, pers.comm. 2022).

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: Schell & Waterway (1992) discussed interesting geographic patterns of allozyme diversity in this narrowly endemic species.

Synonymy: = FNA23, K1, K3, K4, RAB, S, Tn, W, Mackenzie (1931-1935); = Carex juncea, apparently misapplied
