Cladium californicum (S. Watson) O'Neill. Western Sawgrass. Phen: May-Aug. Hab: Along streams on limestone. Dist: E. edge of the Edwards Plateau (including Bastrop County, TX), west to CA, south into Mexico (COA).
ID notes:Very similar to C. jamaicense.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: The taxonomy of the central TX Cladium is uncertain, as they are morphologically and geographically ambiguous relative to southwestern sawgrass and Gulf Coast sawgrass. Tucker (2002a) discusses the need for further elucidation of the relationship and morphological distinctions between C. californicum and C. jamaicense.
