Clematis socialis Kral. Subgenus: Viorna. Alabama Leatherflower. Hab: Wet calcareous flatwoods. Dist: Nw. GA (Floyd Co.) and ne. AL (St. Clair and Cherokee counties). Recently discovered in Piedmont of GA (the population needing additional study).

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: Timmerman-Erskine & Boyd (1999) report on reproductive ecology of this endangered species; Goertzen & Boyd (2007) on its genetic diversity.
