Crataegus schuettei Ashe. Schuette's Hawthorn. Phen: Apr-May; Sep-Oct. Hab: Mesic upland forests, thin woodlands, brushy fields, rock outcrops, sometimes locally abundant. Dist: Ranging predominately north of our area, in NH, NY, PA west to WI and n. IL, extending south in Appalachian Plateau to WV and w. NC (e. TN?), and south to MO and n. AR (?).
ID notes:Very similar to C. macrosperma Ashe, differing primarily by its 20 stamens per flower. Foliage of juvenile shoots of C. schuettei in w. NC are often deeply laciniate.
